Get same-day treatment for common conditions at Ingrave Pharmacy and Travel Clinic, right here in Brentwood. No GP appointment needed. Just walk in or book online.
NHS Pharmacy First is a government-funded service that lets trained pharmacists assess and treat seven specific conditions without you needing to see a GP first. If you’re eligible, the pharmacist can assess and treat you on the spot. The consultation is free, and standard NHS prescription charges apply to any medicine unless you’re exempt.
The service launched nationally in 2024 and is available to NHS patients across England. It’s designed to free up GP appointments for more complex cases while giving you faster access to care for conditions that are straightforward to treat.
At Ingrave Pharmacy, our Independent Prescriber leads this service. That means you’re getting a clinical assessment, not just over-the-counter advice.
A sore throat caused by a bacterial infection can be assessed and treated at the pharmacy. We use the FeverPAIN scoring tool to decide whether antibiotic treatment is appropriate for you.
Earache in children aged 1 to 17 can be treated under this service. We assess symptom duration and severity before recommending treatment or referring to your GP if needed.
If you've had facial pain, a blocked nose, or thick nasal discharge lasting more than 10 days, we can assess whether treatment is needed. Sinusitis that doesn't clear on its own often responds well to targeted medication.
An insect bite that's red, swollen, warm to touch, or getting worse may be infected. We can assess the bite and prescribe antibiotic treatment where appropriate, so you don't have to wait for a GP slot.
Impetigo is a contagious bacterial skin infection that spreads quickly, particularly in children. We can assess, recommend or prescribe treatment where clinically appropriate. and prescribe topical or oral antibiotics depending on the severity.
Shingles can be treated under Pharmacy First in adults aged 18 and over. Early antiviral treatment works best, ideally within 72 hours of the rash appearing, so getting seen quickly matters.
Women aged 16 to 64 presenting with typical UTI symptoms can access antibiotic treatment directly through this service. We assess your symptoms, confirm eligibility, and prescribe where clinically appropriate.
Outside of the seven core Pharmacy First conditions, our pharmacist can also help with:
You don’t need a GP referral to use this service. Any NHS patient registered in England can walk into Ingrave Pharmacy and ask to be seen under Pharmacy First.
You can also book online in advance if you’d prefer a set time. We’re open Monday to Friday, 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm. The midday closure allows us to maintain dispensing operations and respond to urgent prescriptions, so please plan your visit accordingly.
Book your appointment online, call us, or simply walk in to request a consultation today.
Speak privately with our pharmacist about your symptoms, medical history, and any current medications.
Receive treatment on the spot, including prescriptions or advice, or get a professional referral.
Christopher Okworu is a qualified Independent Prescriber, not just a dispensing pharmacist. That makes a real difference to the quality of your clinical assessment.
For the conditions this service covers, you can be seen and treated the same day. That's the point of Pharmacy First, and we deliver on it.
Ingrave Pharmacy has served the Brentwood area for over two decades. We know our patients and we take the time to treat them properly.
Your discussion with our pharmacist takes place in a private room. Nothing is done over the counter where others can hear.
If your visit reveals something outside Pharmacy First scope, we have other NHS and private services available. You may not need to go anywhere else.
We are conveniently located in Ingrave and provide pharmacy services to patients across the wider Brentwood district and beyond.

What a friendly and helpful chemists. Telephoned them. Needed an urgent flu jab. Told to come down any time. 2 minute journey and walked through the door. The staff were friendly and the jab was painless. We are losing our real local community chemists and so if you live local use it or lose it. 👍👍👍Posted on Google![]()
